Medical Coder Job Description:
You will be accountable for conversion of diagnoses and procedures into codes using an international classification of diseases. You will ensure that records are coded in an accurate and timely manner.
Medical Coder Job Duties:
•Manages activities in coding section to ensure accurate, timely and appropriate assignment of ICD-9-CM and CPT codes.
•Plans and adjusts work assignments to meet goal of coding within 4 days. Monitors turnaround time and productivity and follows up on uncoded accounts. Conducts quality assurance activities, reports results to management, and provides feedback and training to other coders.
•Act as department liaison and coding expert to ancillary departments, administration, and physicians. Participates in initiatives and activities related to data integrity and reviews case mix data and provides feedback to HIM management.
•Assist with design and implementation of related applications and upgrades to 3M encoder and Epic coding and abstracting application. As well as, leads initiative to improve documentation with clinical providers.
Medical Coder Job Requirements:
•1 year outpatient/inpatient Coding Experience
•Must be RHIA, RHIT, CCS, CCA, OR eligible
•Skilled in ICD-9-CM/CPT with knowledge of Prospective Payment/DRG, APC system plus knowledge of computer systems.
•Knowledge of 3-M encoder
