Director of Pharmacy
The Director of Pharmacy (DOP) manages the day-to-day operations of the pharmacy and serves as the legal pharmacist-in-charge pursuant to Board of Pharmacy regulations. The DOP:

Is responsible for overall administrative policies governing the pharmacy department, for organizing, developing, directing and coordinating interdepartmental activities of the pharmacy

Is responsible for implementing and/or supervising the development of specific pharmacy services and new programs

Plans, coordinates, and directs all activities related to the compounding, dispensing, delivery, receipt, and handling of medications and associated products within regulatory guidelines

Oversees drug procurement and inventory management

Is responsible for compliance with all policies and procedures governing the purchase, receipt, storage, distribution, and accounting of controlled substances in accordance with all federal and state laws and standards of professional practice. Participates in Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee activities including drug use evaluation and formulary management

Participates in hospital’s overall quality assurance program. Assures the competency of all pharmacy staff

Coordinates ongoing processes to evaluate and improve safe medication strategies

Oversees the provision and ensures the appropriateness of clinical pharmacy services including drug regimen review, pharmacokinetics, renal drug dosing, management of parenteral nutrition, and monitoring of anticoagulant therapy

Is responsible for financial management of the pharmacy department. Assists with maintenance of schedules within the pharmacy

Assists with interviewing, hiring, and conducting performance reviews of the Staff Pharmacists and Pharmacy Technicians

Fulfills duties of Staff Pharmacist when necessary
Education:
Required: B.S. in Pharmacy or Pharm. D degree from an accredited College of Pharmacy
Preferred: Advanced pharmacy degree
Completion of an accredited hospital pharmacy residency program.
Completion of an accredited Sterile Products Training program
Experience:
Required: At least three years recent experience as a Director of Pharmacy for a ‘For-profit’ hospital other pharmacy supervisory experience will be given consideration in lieu of DOP experience, such as Team Leader, PIC, etc.
Licenses/Certificates:
Required: Registered Pharmacist license, New Mexico Board of Pharmacy. Qualitified that are not NM licensed will also be given due consideration.
Relocation assistance: Up to $10,000 reimbursement
FTEs: 17 (8 FT Pharmacists, 1PRN Pharmacist; 8 Pharmacy Techs)
