| Position Description: |
Description
The position requires certification as a CPC, Certified Professional Coder or a CCS-P, Certified Coding Specialist for Physicians. The main function of the Coding Specialist is to provide outpatient coding support to Physician Clinics with various specialities. The Coder Specialist would review patient records and assign accurate codes for each diagnosis and procedure using ICD-9-CM and CPT / HCPCS (3M coding software), as well as appropriate coding references. This individual will be required to make independent decisions regarding accurate ICD-9-CM and CPT / HCPCS codes assignments. These decisions will play a key role in determining the reimbursement potential of CHS and adherance to coding compliance regulations and corporate policies developed to ensure accurate billing.
Qualifications
High school diploma or GED
Required certifications include at least one of the following: Certified Coding Specialist (CCS), Certified Coding Specialist for Physicians (CCS-P)
Minimum three years ongoing coding and abstracting experience in ICD-9-CM, DRGs, and CPT / HCPCS, including modifiers and APCs required
