Heart Center--
We expanded its cardiology program in late 2004 to include open-heart surgery and coronary angioplasty. This expansion plan was driven by the high incidence of heart disease in the North Country, and the lack of angioplasty and open-heart services north of a line from Albany to Syracuse. We provide a high quality, cost effective service that is of great benefit to the area's overall health-care delivery system. Volumes have steadily grown since inception. In 2008 the hospital did 166 cardiac surgeries, 403 angioplasties, 1,384 caths, and 300 EPs. There are 10 Cardiologists on staff full time the hospital and a number of them do additional clinics at outlying hospitals. Albany Cardiothoracic Surgeons, P.C., provides two community-based cardiac surgeons as well as back-up and on-call service.

Cardiovascular Surgery:
Cardiovascular surgery is performed in state-of-the-art dedicated surgical suites with a shared perfusion/physician workstation/supply area. The CV surgical suites are part of the brand new OR wing (opened in October 2008) that has a total of nine rooms/suites. The CV OR has a fully integrated imaging system enabling the surgeons and staff to view cath lab info, x-rays, archived trans esophageal echos, etc. The ORs have moveable booms and flat panel screens. Later this year, remote monitoring capability will be added so that the surgeons can monitor the vital signs of their patients in the ICU and Post-Anesthesia Care. The Cardiothoracic surgery team includes surgeons (2), cardiac anesthesiologist (1), cardiovascular midlevel providers (3), Clinical Coordinator (1), perfusionists (2), RN s (6), and anesthesia techs (2). Albany Cardiothoracic Surgeons, P.C., provides the two community-based cardiac surgeons as well as back-up and on-call service. In 2008, CVPH did 166 Cardiac surgeries.
We use Atri Cure for ablation of Atrial Fibrillations and there is a new Veri-Q flow meter system for graph patency. Equipement is on order to TMR and should arrive by August. The hospital s Sterile Processing Department moved to brand new quarters underneath the new surgical wing at the same time that the new wing opened. The final phase of the surgical wing expansion will be completed in late July when the new Post-Anesthesia Care Unit opens.

CVOR RN Responsibilities--
The Cardiovascular/Thoracic Surgery Registered Nurse is responsible for the management and delivery of patient care utilizing the nursing process to assess, plan, implement and evaluate care of patients undergoing a surgical procedure. The OR nurse directs and guides the delivery of patient care, patient education, and all care related activities, while maintaining standards of professional nursing. He/She is familiar with all instruments, supplies, and equipment used during specific surgical procedures. On-call coverage is required.

**Graduate of an accredited School of Nursing
**Minimum of two (2) years of Cardiac/Thoracic/Vascular OR experience required
